The Center for Learning and Knowledge Management

The Center for Learning and Knowledge Management ZLW is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. The focus of the ZLW is on the investigation, development and implementation of trend-setting concepts and solutions suitable for complex innovation and organisational development processes on the one hand and learning and knowledge processes on the other hand in science, business and politics. The emphasis is devoted to the integrated and system-oriented monitoring of personal, organisational and technological development. In currently four research groups (“Innovation Research and Work Research”, “eHumanities”, “Knowledge Engineering” and “Academic Teaching and Learning”) several research, service and teaching projects are carried out by interdisciplinary research teams.

The ZLW evolved from the Centre for Didactics in Higher Education and heads various central projects and institutions for teaching and further education: It designs and coordinates the training program aiming at the education of excellent teaching staff at the RWTH Aachen University within the scope of the Center of Excellence in Academic Teaching. Together with its partners from the Technical University Dortmund and the Ruhr-University Bochum the ZLW runs the national Competence and Service Center for Teaching and Learning in Engineering Sciences, called “TeachIng.LearnIng.EU”. The student laboratories of the RWTH, RWTH Education Labs, are also located at the ZLW und are organised jointly with partners from university and industry.
